In collaboration with Tender Creative, LED designed the first ever free-standing store for Converse. The design for this small prototype boutique reflects a key aspect of the Converse brand and its iconic canvas sneakers: their constant re-appropriation by generations of countercultures. The store is treated as a canvas for local artists periodically to take over and transform. While the sales and merchandising infrastructure remain in place and functional, the architectural details are designed as armatures for sculptural installations or other acts of alteration. LED's self-imposed challenge was to find the balance between a permanent, physical identity, and extreme reconfigurability.
